Well, we can all breathe a deep sigh of relief now.
Having sweated all summer at the prospect of losing him, Kalvin Phillips today signed a new five-year deal with Leeds. Having grown up a Leeds United fan, it was more than likely a formality, but my word did those summer months get us rather worried at stages.
So when the news finally came through that the deal was done, it was just one huge sigh of relief among the fanbase, with some going to, I’d say rather extreme lengths to show their affection for the man that they call ‘The Yorkshire Pirlo’.
Years we watched Leeds lose players like this and look at us now. Great work from all parties, three cheers for 5 years!

He could become one of our best if bielsa stays and we go up, he’s got the makings of a real club legend

The news was even special enough that it got recognition from a certain someone.
You’re Leeds!

Do you reckon we’ve converted him to being a United fan now? If he’s this excited about Phillips getting a new deal, imagine how pleased he’ll be if his young protégé Eddie Nketiah signs permanently for the club?
Although, there was one fan who did remain slightly sceptical. As Phil Hay reported over the weekend, the deal is set to include a release clause in case the club don’t reach the Premier League, and that left him feeling nervous.
We’ll see how committed he is if/when we don’t go up. Good news anyway.
