‘Would be a great great signing’ – Many Leeds fans discuss potential targets after £3.5m deal

Many Leeds United supporters have been discussing who they would like the club to target after agreeing a £3.5million deal with Burnley for Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, United will be looking to sign a replacement for the 22-year-old Whites product, who sought a move away from Elland Road after Marcelo Bielsa failed to offer him any assurances over first-team football next season.

Clarets boss Sean Dyche has evidently been able to convince Peacock-Farrell that his fortunes may be different at Turf Moor, after the Premier League side sold Tom Heaton to Aston Villa for £8million and could part ways with former England international Joe Hart.

It had been alleged that the Lancashire side’s offer was in the region of £2.6million, but United are now understood to have accepted a £3.5m bid that includes a sell-on clause for the 2020-free agent.

The club now have one week to secure Peacock-Farrell’s replacement if Director of Football Victor Orta is to dip his toe back in the transfer market, with parts of the Elland Road faithful keen to see one of Southampton’s Alex McCarthy or rumoured Whites target Karl Darlow move to West Yorkshire.

Other supporters have shared their hope in seeing one of Will Huffer or Kamil Miazek earn a promotion to the role of Kiko Casilla’s understudy, after being impressed by the duo’s efforts in our youth ranks.

One-time England international McCarthy had emerged as Southampton’s number one between the sticks midway through the 2017/18 season, but the £4.5m-rated ‘keeper lost his position to Angus Gunn the following campaign.

Darlow, meanwhile, has one year left on his contract with Newcastle, where he has not been a regular since the side were last in the Championship during the 2016/17 term.

United were alleged to have contacted the £3.15m-rated shot-stopper mid-way through July, and may now return to their interest in the Northampton-born ace.

As for Huffer, the 20-year-old made his Leeds first-team debut during the club’s injury-plagued period last season and kept Bristol City out, before joining Barnet on a short-term loan deal in January.

He is likely now ready for more first-team football, and demonstrated a commanding presence at the back in the recent term.

Miazek, meanwhile, is yet to earn a first-team appearance, but Bielsa handed the 22-year-old sporadic chances during his pre-season plans last summer and is capable of playing out from the back.

Here’s who these Leeds fans would like to see the club target as Peacock-Farrell’s replacement…
