Selling frustrated Whites ace would be a huge mistake as Leeds receive bid – opinion

Leeds would be making a huge mistake by selling Bailey Peacock-Farrell, after The Sun claimed Burney have offered United £2.6million for the Whites product.

The Clarets are stepping up their pursuit of the Marcelo Bielsa outcast, having parted company with Tom Heaton as the England international is close to joining Aston Villa following an accepted £8million approach.

Sean Dyche now sees fit to replace Heaton’s role in his goalkeeper pecking order, and sees Peacock-Farrell as someone who can compete with Nick Pope for the number one jersey.

Peacock-Farrell’s potential arrival in Lancashire could also force former England and Manchester City man Joe Hart to leave Turf Moor before Deadline Day, having been dropped last term following a string of poor performances.

Bielsa likewise sought to drop Peacock-Farrell midway through the recent campaign and brought Kiko Casilla to the club in January to become our new number one, but the Spaniard showed he could not be trusted to maintain an error-free run of form.

While Peacock-Farrell is allegedly frustrated at being the number two at Elland Road, and Leeds are thought to be pushing him toward Burnley, the club would be far better served keeping the shot-stopper around, as he has the quality and potential to be our long-term first choice.

He was unlucky to be shelved from the first-team last season, and deserves another shot in West Yorkshire, given he kept nine clean sheets in the opening 28 games last season and kept the would-be promotion challengers Norwich City, Sheffield United, and Derby County at bay.

With his contract up in the summer of 2020, though, securing money for his services may be too good for the board to turn down.
