‘Why him’, ‘useless’: Some Leeds fans distraught as new man arrives at Elland Road

|

Are we done now in the goalkeeping department?

It’s been a hot button issue all summer, and with the departure of Bailey Peacock-Farrell to Burnley last week, the list of shot-stoppers at Elland Road was starting to look a little bit thin.

It didn’t stay thin for long though, as Leeds United have confirmed the signing of Illan Meslier on a season-long loan from Ligue 2 side Lorient.

Having only been linked with him since yesterday, fans have been given a bit of time to research him, certainly more time than they had when the news first came in. So what have they managed to find out in the last couple of hours? Well, it seems like that extra bit of time hasn’t done anything to brighten the mood amongst the fans.

Some fans took it upon themselves to reassure those naysayers who doubt the Frenchman, obviously they’re of a glass-half-full persuasion.

One of the biggest concerns amongst fans, weirdly, was how thin he was. I’m not sure if someone’s girth or lack thereof is important in a player. Although Mark Viduka wasn’t exactly a size zero and he enjoyed a pretty good relationship with the Leeds fans, so perhaps there’s something to it. It would also explain why we never saw Peter Crouch pulling on a United shirt, maybe Leeds fans just have a preference.
