Leeds United returned to winning ways in the Championship on Saturday by beating Bristol City at Elland Road and the U23 side followed suit on Monday.
The likes of Tyler Roberts and Jack Harrison were in action against Sheffield United in a 3-1 victory, where the former was on the scoresheet after Manchester City loanee Harrison earned a penalty – which led to hilarious responses on social media.
It is a well-known fact that Leeds’ senior team have not been awarded a penalty since a victory over Reading in October 2017, with the Peacocks going a whole year without earning a spot-kick – with many fans joking about a curse.
However, the incident in Monday’s U23 clash suggests that the curse may have been broken and it led to some hilarious reactions on social media as some supporters reacted to the decision.
We have gathered some of their comments below.

What is this ‘penalty’ thing?

@EFL can you look at this? What are your refs doing giving our under 23 team something called a penalty? I’m not even sure if this is a real thing in football. #lufc #newrules
