‘What a joke’, ‘This season is over’ – Loads of Leeds fans react as club ‘confident’ in £5m raid

Belgian Jupiler Pro League outfit RSC Anderlecht are ‘very confident’ in signing Leeds United striker Kemar Roofe, according to Phil Hay.

The side now managed by former Manchester City centre-back Vincent Kompany are poised to acquire the Whites forward, who has entered the final year of his contract at Elland Road, and could host the attacker for his medical this weekend.

Leeds were expected to demand £7million if Roofe is to leave the club ahead of the August 8 Deadline Day for English Premier League and Championship sides, but it has been suggested by Football Insider that terms have been agreed in the region of £5million.

While Roofe is currently sidelined through injury, the deal should go through unless scans show an underlying problem which would result in the striker failing his medical.

If the 26-year-old fails to complete a move to the Jupiler Pro League, we could face the prospect of last season’s top ‘scorer leaving West Yorkshire for free next summer, as the board have so far failed to reach an agreement to extend his contract.

The 16-goal hitman had been hoping to see a new deal tabled that would see his wage move in line with 2018/19 arrivals Patrick Bamford and Kiko Casilla, who earn figures in the region of £30k and £40,000-a-week.

Whites fans reacting to Hay’s suggestion that Anderlecht’s interest is serious, and that sources in Belgium are very confident in an agreement being reached, have been sharing their frustration in Director of Football Victor Orta’s inability to extend the striker’s contract, given he recently shared his confidence in doing so.

Others have reacted with tongue-in-cheek comments suggesting Kompany should take Bamford as well as Roofe, while some have seen the alleged £7million asking price as good business for a 2020-free agent.

Here’s how these fans reacted…
