Two Leeds stars recognised for key role in Whites season, and it’s not who you may think

Our campaign may not be over and promotion is very much still on the line, but it is around this time of the year that Team of the Seasons are named, and players are acknowledged for their standout efforts for their respective sides.

For us, the players officially acknowledged by the Football League were Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper, with our captain also making the EFL’s overall Team of the Season for each of their three divisions.

Yet, while they were selected, there was much confusion and surprise that Pablo Hernandez had been overlooked given how brilliant he has been under Marcelo Bielsa.

Our Spanish genius has, however, finally been acknowledged for his efforts, albeit in a less official capacity, as the Bristol Post have noted that he has been one of the most creative players of the term.

The publication have compiled an XI of the most creative players of the 2018/19 Championship season for each individual position, and, along with Hernandez, found Ezgjan Alioski has been one of the best for carving out chances for his teammates.

Our left-back has, altogether, played a staggering 76 key passes to date, which is more than anyone else for the position, and the Bristol Post even describe his long-range passing ability as ‘quarterback-esque’.

Hernandez, meanwhile, is described as oozing brilliance, and his omission from the official Team of the Season is noted as bizarre and shameless, as ‘the Spaniard’s movement and intelligence, on and off the ball, is class personified’.
