“Truly having an impact on the English game” – Some Leeds fans react to lofty praise for key duo

|

A few Leeds United fans have been reacting on social media, after the club shared that the English Football League had lauded Marcelo Bielsa and Mateusz Klich as two of the Championship’s top performers from Matchday 19.

The EFL announced on Tuesday morning who had made their Championship Team of the Week from the weekend’s round of fixtures, and felt that the efforts of Klich and Bielsa in our 4-0 rout of Middlesbrough were worthy of their lofty praise.

Klich made his 19th start of the season against Boro when the Riverside natives travelled to Elland Road, and scored our second and fourth goals of the game to notch his second and third of the term thus far.

The 29-year-old Poland international struck his goals with two of his three attempted efforts on Saturday, with his only unsuccessful hit going wide of the mark.

He also took the fourth-most touches of any player for either side with 88 and completed 47 of his 63 passes, per WhoScored data, of which one was a key ball.

Klich offered a defensive presence, too, with three successful tackles from five duels and one interception.

With the EFL naming Bielsa as the Manager of the Week, their Team of the Week was formed around his 3-3-3-1 set-up favoured at home to Boro on Saturday, and featured a backline of Bristol City’s Ashley Williams, Cardiff’s Aden Flint and Birmingham’s Jake Clarke-Salter, in front of Cardiff’s Neil Etheridge in goal.

Klich was joined in midfield by Barnsley duo Alex Mowatt and Mike-Steven Bahre, with Brentford’s Josh Dasilva acting as the attacking option.

Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, Sheffield Wednesday Steven Fletcher and Reading’s George Puscas were each chosen for the three most-advanced options to complete the line-up.
