“Today He Showed The Opposite” – Bielsa Admits Leeds Talent Proved Him Wrong In Wednesday Clash

|

The weekend clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United turned into another of those games where our lack of a clinical ability came back ultimately to bite us as we dropped points against a fellow promotion hopeful and took only a draw – but manager Marcelo Bielsa saw some key positives in the match that could serve us very well for the remainder of the campaign.

Having clearly stated (whilst stating he wasn’t 100% sure of what he was on about) that he felt it was Patrick Bamford’s overall team ethic that had him as first choice, compared to on loan Arsenal starlet Eddie Nketiah – Click Here – as fans will know, each player got 45 minutes in the last fixture.

According to Whoscored there was little to separate their performances as both only managed a single shot on target, but Nketiah rated significantly higher on the day as he contributed two key passes to our play.

Speaking to Leeds Live following the game, Bielsa said of the 20-year-old.

“Patrick is a player who has the skill to fight in the physical challenge. Until today we thought Eddie had less skill in this sense, but today he showed the opposite. I saw a lot of good things in Eddie today and I didn’t see that in before performances. I give value to the spirit to compete, to recover the ball, to help the team to pass through difficult moments and one great skill to unbalance the one v one offensively. Powerful movement when he had to dribble at the centre-back he faced.”

A change might not be imminent, but it certainly seems closer than it was this time last week.
