“Only one team going to win that” – A lot of Leeds United fans are annoyed with Graham Smyth’s assessment that had Jordan Hugill scored his header the game against QPR would not have been so comfortable.
Smyth offered a balanced verdict on Saturday’s 2-0 win, and he says that the game was comfortable for Leeds – so I feel some fans have misunderstood him.
The chance for Hugill was good, but he was stretching to reach it, and it certainly was not a guaranteed goal even if he had made proper connection.
Should Hugill have scored
Yes, absolute sitter
No, he was stretching for the ball
Leeds also missed two glorious chances, and they are considered in Smyth’s report.
The verdict he offers is just trying to point out why the second goal from Jack Harrison was so important – one-goal leads are never safe as Leeds have discovered this season.
So, that second was crucial, and QPR showed nothing apart from one chance.
Mark Warburton felt that his side were unlucky not to leave Elland Road with something, but they were lucky they only lost 2-0 to a far superior team.
See the best of the reaction below.
For the glass half full crowd, it was very comfortable in the end.
For the glass half empty crowd, had Hugill got his header right, it wouldn't have been very comfortable.
Something for everyone. https://t.co/UKuRdGJfOm

Hugills header?? What about all our chances we had loads they had one you dolls head. Your no Phil bud

They managed to put one good cross in the box in 90 minutes. On that basis I don’t think there was too much to worry about.

I thought QPR were terrible. Like every team I have seen at Elland Road. Comfortable win for me. They didn’t look dangerous in the slightest which was odd as they have goals in their team.

Comfortable and professional win. Yes Hugill missed a chance but we missed more. Disingenuous to argue that was a close game.

These Leeds fans are annoyed at Smyth’s report.
That header didn’t look as easy as people are making out, ball came in quite high and with pace. He was always gonna be stretching for it

To be honest that header didn’t look easy. Even if he makes proper contact it’s not guaranteed to beat Kiko

Really didn’t think the Hugill ‘chance’ was all that. Stretching for it all the way

Other Whites supporters thought that Warburton overplayed the Hugill chance.
