With a win and a draw under Leeds United’s belt now the 2019/20 Championship campaign is underway, we headed to the DW Stadium earlier today to face off against Wigan Athletic.

Manager Marcelo Bielsa would’ve had every confidence of seeing a good performance and a solid three points, but Wigan were never going to roll over.

In fact, they pretty much did, especially after going down to ten men early on in the game so we dominated slightly more than is usual under Bielsa, but tellingly striker Patrick Bamford made two of his efforts count to register the brace and give us a pretty comfortable three points.

Three in three for Bamford should certainly help his confidence with ongoing doubts from some in the fanbase. Now onto the next one, but for now, we are back top of the Championship table.

Speaking to the BBC following the full time whistle, Bielsa said of our efforts on the day.

“It was a fair result, we could have scored more goals. Playing with one player more is an important advantage. It was a game full of free-kicks but today we played more calmly in defence than usual. The performance of the team is increasing day by day and game by game.”
