“The Only Exception” – Kinnear Reveals Leeds January Plans

|

With Leeds United more than in the mix again for the automatic promotion spots in the Championship in the campaign of 2019/20, there’s also the small matter of the January transfer window edging ever nearer at the turn of the year, and our chief executive, Angus Kinnear, has now outlined our plans for the New Year.

In many ways, it won’t be what fans wanted to hear.

Writing in his pre-Cardiff City programme notes at the weekend, as relayed by Leeds Live, Kinnear strongly suggested that the main priority was in keeping the group balanced and united and unless we happen to lose one of our loan players, there’s unlikely to be any strengthening done next month.

“As the festive schedule gathers pace the media’s attention will turn to the January transfer window and the frenzy of speculation around the hunt for the elusive “season changing” player will intensify. While Victor’s scouting team are as close to the market as ever, we will be prioritising not disrupting the stability of the existing squad versus gambling on any introductions. We believe that the continuity that the current squad have in working with Marcelo for 18 months is the cornerstone of the progress we have made to date and that the players ability to adapt across positions and systems give us the strength in depth required to see out the campaign.”

Kinnear went on to add.

“The only exception will be if we have to cover for an unexpected injury, unwanted departure or an improbable exceptional opportunity presents itself.”

With a two point gap to West Bromwich Albion remaining, plenty of fans were hoping to see at least one more striker and centre-half walk through the door to ensure we have adequate strength in depth for the second half of the year, as it seems most fans certainly disagree with Kinnear on that front.

We shall see.
