Any lingering hopes Leeds had of reaching the play-offs were finally put to bed with defeat at Ipswich Town.

The game turned dramatically just past the half hour when Tom Lees was shown a straight red card.

David McGoldrick scored either side of the break and substitute Jay Emmanuel-Thomas scored a third halfway through the second half to secure the points.

It could have been all so different had Leeds taken their chances, as they were once again guilty of missing a host of chances.

Stephen Warnock saw his corner hit the post and Paul Green saw his shot from the rebound cleared off the line.

Leeds looked lively and Green again and David Norris twice went close to opening the scoring.

Even after the dismissal of Lees on 31 minutes, a straight red card for a tackle on Jay Tabb, Leeds had a great chance to take the lead.

Steve Morison somehow fired over from close range and Norris was once again denied.

Ipswich opened the scoring on the stroke of half time when McGoldrick was on hand to score after Luke Hyam saw his effort come back off the woodwork.

McGoldrick killed the game off as a contest in the opening five minutes of the second half when he found time and space to fire past Paddy Kenny.

Morison again missed a great chance for Leeds but he could only fire straight at Loach in the Ipswich goal.

Sam Byram then saw an effort blocked on the line as Leeds were once again missing chances in front of goal.

Emmanuel-Thomas fired home from inside the area minutes after coming on as a substitute.

The third goal finished the game off as any sort of contest and the rest of the game was seen out with little effort.
