Following on from the faux outrage that was the ‘Spygate’ affair between Leeds United and Derby County, the EFL, as promised, have now passed a new rule to utterly clear things of a James Bond nature up in the future.
At the tail end of the week, the EFL confirmed that a new rule had been introduced after discussions between member clubs to ensure that no club in the future would dare stand on public ground and perfectly legally look into another sides training ground.
It’s possibly understandable as to why the new rule is about as useful as a chocolate teapot as this year’s AGM took place in Portugal, so many they had other things on their mind like sun, sea, and I would say sangria but that’s not right.
“Without prejudice to the requirements of regulation 3.4 (that each club shall behave towards each other club with the upmost (sic) good faith), no club shall directly or indirectly observe (or attempt to observe) another club’s training session in the period of 72 hours prior to any match scheduled to be played between those respective clubs.”
Ignoring the spelling (I can hardly talk in fairness) how can anyone ensure they don’t ‘indirectly observe’ something?
That’s notwithstanding the fact that the rules now make it perfectly appropriate to spy on future opposition as long as it’s not within the 72-hour limit.
As ever, well done EFL, you totally nailed that response.
Best get there 73 hours before then

This made me laugh more than it should have. Bravo

So all we need to do is cut a deal with another club to spy on our behalf and vice versa

So technically we can still spy on opponents… just before that cut off? Just have a sneak peak the week before? Lovely stuff

Can observe the next opponents and see how they're preparing for the game before us then. Class.
