Phil Hay, during the latest episode of The Phil Hay Show, has indicated that Leeds are currently in the process of offering talented Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville a new contract, as he has just one year remaining on his current contract.

”They are talking to Summerville about a new deal at the moment, they haven’t indicated to him that he would be allowed to go on loan.”

Summerville was one of the u23s that worked closely with the first team last season, both under Bielsa and Marsch, but only made 6 appearances in the league, all coming on from the bench, with an accumulative 116 minutes on the pitch. Despite this, the club haven’t suggested to him that they would be interested in giving him a loan move away from the club to get game time.

”I think he personally is quite keen to go on loan because, like last season when he asked to go in January and Hamburg, amongst others, were trying to sign him, he feels like he needs games.”

The Dutchman is an incredibly talented player. With Leeds’  first-team injury woes and general depth issues, he was amongst the substitutes in Premier League fixtures for much of the season, but still managed 6 goals and 1 assist in 13 games in the PL2 in the 2021/22 campaign and racked up 6 goals and 6 assists in 12 games in the previous season As a result, he has no lack of potential suitors:

”Nottingham Forest like him, Sheffield United like him, I don’t think it would be in any way difficult to find him a club if Leeds wanted to send him out on loan but at the moment they haven’t given him the nod that that’s going to happen.”

With Raphinha likely to leave, it does seem that another winger will be signed, with link after link coming out in the last week. With this in mind, Summerville’s 2022/23 season may well be spent away from Elland Road.
