News broke earlier today that we are going to have a friendly with Portuguese side Benfica over the summer off-season period.
Well, I say news broke, but it actually seemed as though only one half of the potential match was particularly aware of what was going on.
Indeed, whilst the Portuguese side announced it, the Whites remained pretty tight-lipped and we had to wait for Phil Hay to shed some light on the situation:
Benfica’s website has listed a friendly against Leeds United in July. Leeds say the game isn’t confirmed and they’re still considering a number of destinations for pre-season. Will be a European tour. #lufc

The Verdict
It seems, then, that the club could possibly play Benfica as part of a European tour but nothing, our end at least, is certain.
That said, I think it might be fair to assume we will be playing against the Lisbon side in the near future if they have confirmed as such and if we’ve not exactly ruled it out.
If it does happen, too, it would be a good tie against one of the most decent sides in Europe.
