Leeds United’s Charlie Cresswell has found himself being left out of the Millwall squad under Gary Rowett. Should the Whites recall the defender in January?

The young defender left Leeds United on a season-long loan with Millwall being the desired destination, but recently he has been left out of the matchday squad. Initially, the loan move looked perfect for all parties and started well with the youngster playing lots of minutes and putting in impressive appearances for the Lions. However, just lately the big centre-back has found himself frozen out at The Den so we ask the question, should he be recalled back to the club?

Leeds have centre-backs in abundance with Robin Koch, Liam Cooper, Diego Llorente Pascal Struijk and Leo Hjelde. Even though recently Struijk and Hjelde have been utilised as stand-in left-backs for the injured Junior Firpo, it made sense for Cresswell to go on loan to get regular first-team games and minutes under his belt. It was felt that keeping him in the U21s was not allowing him to develop to his full potential and competitive games were needed.

Leeds United now have defensive issues again with Junior Firpo suffering a setback in his recovery, Diego Llorente being left out due to a recent drop in form and Liam Cooper still not filling everyone with confidence with his recent performances. The general opinion amongst fans is that the desired centre-back pairing that will take the club forward would be Struijk and Koch or even Cresswell, with a portion of fans hoping he will be given the captain’s armband at some point in the future.

So, could Cresswell be in line for a recall? If he continues to be left out of the Millwall squad I would say he could be, and rightly so. There is no point in him being on loan if he isn’t playing, and I would much rather he be involved in some capacity at Leeds than left on the bench in the Championship. The feeling amongst fans is that he shouldn’t have been loaned out in the first place, and I’d bet the majority of fans would rather him start than Llorente or Cooper.

What do fans think, should Charlie Cresswell be recalled? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
