Leeds have been handed the opportunity to sign Southampton goalkeeper Angus Gunn, a report from Football Insider has claimed.

The Whites are apparently long-term admirers of Gunn, having been interested in the goalkeeper when he made the move to Southampton from Manchester City back in the summer of 2018, and it now seems as though they may have a chance to follow through on that interest.

According to the latest reports, Leeds have retained an interest in Gunn through to the present time, and Southampton are now willing to let the 24-year-old leave this summer.

It is thought the south coast club would prefer for Gunn to move on loan this summer to a club where he could be first choice between the posts, rather than stay at St Mary’s, where he would be behind Alex McCarthy and Fraser Forster in the pecking order.

Gunn has not played for Southampton since their infamous 9-0 thrashing by Leicester last October, and it remains to be seen if Leeds will make an official move for the former England youth international.

You feel that Gunn’s extra experience in the Premier League could be useful for Leeds this season, although it is worth noting that he does have form for making costly errors at times, meaning there would still be a risk involved with this.

Indeed, you also feel that with Gunn on a Premier League wage, it would be hard to justify bringing him in while still paying the seemingly large wages of fellow ‘keeper Kiko Casilla.

That could put something of a strain on their wage budget, which would be frustrating given they can only use of those two at a time, so you feel Leeds would have to move Casilla on, before a move for Gunn would be financially feasible.
