Report: Premier League demand to be put forward that could impact Leeds United

|

Several Premier League clubs will ask that relegation is scrapped if the season can’t be completed because of concerns about the fixture list.

That’s according to The Athletic reporter David Ornstein, who suggested that the likes of West Ham and Brighton are the clubs who feel it would be unfair. The Hammers face Wolves, Chelsea and Tottenham in their first three games back, whilst the Seagulls take on Arsenal, Leicester, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City in five of their next six games.

As a result, they wouldn’t be happy to go down if the campaign was cut short before the 38 games are played because they may go down because of what’s described as a ‘fixture imbalance’.

Will Leeds United be playing in the Premier League next season?

Yes

No

Of course, that would have an impact on Leeds United as they currently top the Championship and are on course to return to the Premier League but no relegation would throw any promotion into doubt. Even though one solution would be to extend the number of teams in the top-flight next season, it has been said in the past that there’s no way clubs would vote for that.

This update comes on the back of Norwich City’s sporting director Stuart Webber claiming that the Canaries wouldn’t be happy to go down if the Championship didn’t complete their season as well.

It should be stated that the aim of both divisions is to play the remaining games and steps have been taken to do just that as contact training resumed with the Premier League clubs, with the Football League sure to follow suit in the coming days.
