Report: Leeds man attracting strong EFL transfer interest

|

Stoke City and Portsmouth are both keen to sign defender Leif Davis on loan from Leeds United, a report from a print edition of The Daily Mirror (16/08, p64) has claimed.

The 20-year-old left-back has made ten first-team appearances for the Whites in all competitions since breaking into the senior squad at the start of the 2018/19 season, and now seems as though the defender could be in line for more regular football next season.

According to the latest reports, Leeds are considering the prospect of loaning Davis out next season in order to gain more experience, and it seems there are clubs that are keen to give him that opportunity.

It is thought that both Stoke and Portsmouth are looking at the prospect of recruiting Davis on a temporary basis for the coming campaign.

With Stoke set to compete in the Championship and Portsmouth in League One next season, the report goes on to imply that the Potters’ position further up the football pyramid has put them in pole position to secure a deal for Dais.

This does seem as though it would be a sensible deal for Leeds to agree on with one of these clubs.

With Marcelo Bielsa’s side set to make the step up to the Premier League next season, it is hard to see a young, inexperienced player such as Davis getting too much game time with so much at stake.

As a result, a loan move to give him that experience and chance to improve seems to make perfect sense, and the chance to do that in the Championship with a club with the sort of ambitions that Stoke possess should be appealing for both Davis and Leeds, provided they can be certain he will get those opportunities.
