Leeds are battling Aston Villa and Brighton for the signing of Brentford full-back Rico Henry, a report from The Sun has claimed.

Henry enjoyed an outstanding season for the Bees last season, playing every league game as his side reached the Championship play-off final, only to miss out on promotion to the Premier League following defeat to Fulham, and it seems as though Brentford could now pay for that with interest in a number of their players.

According to the latest reports, Leeds, Villa and Brighton are all keen on a move for the 23-year-old, as they look to strengthen their own sides ahead of the new top-flight campaign that starts next month.

As things stand, there are three years remaining on Henry’s contract with his current club, securing his future at Brentford until the end of the 2022/23 season.

That does at least put Brentford in a decent position to negotiate any offers that come in for Henry, although the financial advantage of being a Premier League club, and the lure of playing in the top flight, the likes of Leeds may still be confident of bringing the defender to the Premier League this summer.

Even so, it could be argued that a move for Henry could be a slightly strange one for Leeds to make at the moment.

With Stuart Dallas, Ezgjan Alioski and Barry Douglas all currently on the books at Elland Road, it doesn’t really feel like left-back is an area they need to strengthen in, despite Henry’s undoubted abilities.

Indeed, with Henry’s current contract situation and that interest from elsewhere meaning there is the potential for a bidding war here, it feels as though this could become a rather expensive deal for Leeds, which could then risk pricing them out of other important moves this summer.
