Marcelo Bielsa did an amazing job in turning our mid-table side into one fighting for automatic promotion, but the boss has revealed that he believes our missed chances have cost us at least ten points, as per quotes by the Yorkshire Evening Post.
Those points would surely have been enough for the squad to secure promotion this season, maybe even the Championship title, as we would be five clear of Norwich rather than five behind.
Sheffield United would also be seven points down on the Canaries in the race for automatic promotion, taking into account our missed chances against the Blades, meaning a top two spot could have soon been wrapped up with games to spare.
When Chris Wilder’s side beat us at Elland Road before the international break, we cannot say that the Whites could not carve out chances to score, only that we let them off when Chris Basham made the net ripple in the 71st minute.
The fact that we were able to create chances against a promotion rival was something that Bielsa was keen to stress in his comments reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“We’ve had close to 250 [clear-cut] chances to score this season. The other clubs have had about half of this,” the Argentine stated.
“The top teams in the league score one in three chances and the teams that are down in the table, they need five chances to score one goal. We’ve created 250 so the offensive play of the team is the best [attribute] we have.
“If we improved our efficiency or had more luck, maybe we would have another ten points or more.
“This is me making analysis. The real thing is the results, but to correct results and to improve, we have to make this analysis.”
When the boss’ claim that we have let at least ten points go to waste this season was shared on Twitter, this is what you made of them…
And he’s right. As brilliant as we’ve been, we’re our own worst enemy.

Amazing that a team with so much of the ball – and with such a commitment to keeping the ball – has a fair few players lacking composure when it matters. Pablo and Bamford are the only players you’d expect to finish more often than not. Others are a tombola anywhere near the box.

Can’t argue with that it’s true poor finishing in games has cost us we have all been witness to it but them games have gone let’s try to make sure it is put right in the remaining 8 games #Lufc #alaw #mot

Needed a poacher bringing in in January. The world could see it

And yet there was no investment in January when this was clearly a problem then too…
