Phil Hay: Leeds looking to complete transfer this week

|

Leeds are hoping to announce the signing of RB Salzburg defender Rasmus Kristensen, once the final details are resolved, says Phil Hay.

It is believed personal terms have been agreed and a medical is set for after the international fixtures.

Kristensen will again link up with former boss Jesse Marsch, his coach at RB Salzburg, and he will join Luke Ayling and Cody Drameh to fight for the right back position at Elland Road.

He is familiar to the formation, style and aggressive press that Marsch used at Red Bull and looks to be a good addition to the squad. His personal stats and goal involvements are good for a right back with 72 appearances and 10 goals in his three years at Salzburg since 2019.  He most recently featured for Denmark in their Nations League victory against Austria where he played the full 90 minutes.

Leeds have been crying out for competition in the full back positions, with Drameh going out on loan to championship side Cardiff City and only Ayling as a recognised right back at the club. Jamie Shackleton, normally a midfielder has filled in at that position, as well as utility man Stuart Dallas.

Far too often it has been square pegs in round holes for Leeds as injuries took their toll last season, but with the signing of Kristensen imminent, Leeds fans can start to look to the new campaign knowing the right side of defence is looking a bit more solid.

Kristensen comes with international and European experience having been capped six times with Denmark and totting up numerous games in the Champions League with RB Salzburg.
