Leeds United have more interest than most on what the football authorities decide in the coming weeks as they currently lead the Championship with nine games to play.
Whilst the aim remains to finish the season, there is an understanding that it may be hard to do just that. Therefore, it has been suggested that sporting merit must be applied if the season is cut short, which means the Championship would stay as it is because every side has played 37 games – meaning Leeds would go up.
Will Leeds United be playing in the Premier League next season?
Yes
No
However, in a further twist, Norwich City’s sporting director Stuart Webber has revealed they would not be happy if they were relegated but a Championship side were promoted without having to complete the campaign. Obviously, that would impact the Whites and it could set the ball rolling on legal disputes in the months to come.
I'm not sure Norwich City will get to decide what happens in the Premier League, never mind the Championship.
But this is an insight into just one of many potential legal battles that could lie ahead for football.https://t.co/EcunQvEwFC#lufc

As you would expect, this didn’t go down well with fans of the Yorkshire club and here we look at some of their reaction to the comments…
What annoys me about Stuart Webber, is that he makes out like Leeds & WBA have a choice in all this. The PL, EFL & FA will decide. So until that decision is made, clubs in the bottom six should really keep quiet in the media. It just looks bad from a PR point of view.

His view carries no weight

Who do Norwich think they are? Been bottom for most, if not all the season and are trying to use any excuse possible to not go down. Such a pathetic club.

They’ve been down there all season, they’re just going to have to suck it up and back down to the championship they go 👋

If they get relegated, it’s nobody’s fault other than their own, regardless of the season finishes now or 2021.

I’m really glad my club @lufc have said very little on the topic and acted with class, despite the genuine concern that we might be denied what we absolutely deserve, promotion. Carry on lads

Only themselves to blame. Championship squad

Carnage we will end up with 27 teams in the championship with this logic
