Here comes Spygate once again.
Although this time I think it’s actually fair to bring it up.
Millwall have been fined £10,000 as punishment for their fan’s racist chants against Everton, during an FA Cup game back in February. Whilst I’m sure we can all agree that racism is a bad thing, something that nobody condones, it seems as if the amount that Millwall have been forced to pay is a bit of a controversial issue.
Leeds fans were quick to jump on the subject and claim that something didn’t smell quite right. They pointed out that they were fined £200k over the Spygate affair, something that they maintain was never against the rules at the time. So how can it be that racism gets a minuscule fine compared to what basically amounted to thorough preparation for Marcelo Bielsa (and we know that he likes to be thorough)?
So when the news came out about the Millwall fine, Leeds fans took to social media to express their outrage. Rather than expressing their anger at the South London club and its supporters, they decided to take their anger out on the authorities instead.
Millwall fined £10k fine for racism.
Leeds were fined £200k for watching another club’s training session. What on earth are the EFL thinking? https://t.co/phcRUkF2tU— Ian Caplan (@icap33) August 1, 2019
200k for Leeds though, for watching a training session from a public road.

Yet, a man standing on a public path the club got fined £200k. The punishment is disproportionate. Doesn’t seem like the regulatory football bodies hand out severe enough punishments for this actual issue. #LUFC

Hmmm… and yet Leeds get fined £200k for “spying” last year? When is racism going to be taken seriously by @FA and @EFL ????♂️

Least they didn’t stand on a public footpath

Thank God it was only racial abuse and not alleged spying from a public footpath coz the fine would of been much greater wouldn’t it

£10,000 for overt racism from a clubs fans. £200,000 fine for Bielsa breaking no laws & having a training session observed from a public right of way. Apparently it’s 20 times worse to do the latter than be a racist. #lufc

The retrospective fines for leeds 200k for spygate Vs millwall 10k for racist chanting says more about the efl than anything else. The inconsistency shrieks incompentcy from the football league. Its like they have no clue and litteraly make it up as they go along. Its pantomine
