The heir apparent?

That’s what I think we could be in store for when it comes to Todd Cantwell, and according to reports, we are getting one step closer to bringing him on board. According to journalist Nicolo Schira the deal is in the ‘advanced stages’, with Leeds and the player reportedly already having agreed personal terms to bring him to Elland Road.

This follows on from reports that we have launched a £15m bid for him a few days ago, so with the phrase ‘advanced stages’ being used, one can only assume that Norwich City are close to accepting it and taking the deal one step closer to being done.

Will we spend more than £100m this window?

But when he does come, what can we expect of him? Personally, and I think this is a bold claim, but hear me out on this. I think we’ve got the heir apparent to Pablo Hernandez. Both similar players in that they are both key playmakers in the middle of the park for their clubs, and whilst their numbers on WhoScored show that Cantwell is still behind in some areas, he does do better than Hernandez in others.

And I think that given time in Marcelo Bielsa’s system, and a year under the tutelage of Hernandez, I don’t see any reason why he can’t slip into that role for us that has been so crucial for us down the years.

I spoke around this time last year that we needed to start planning for Hernandez’ departure, and hopefully this is just the next phase in making that happen.

What about you? Do you see Cantwell as the successor to Hernandez?
