Earlier this month it was reported that Leeds United had sent scouts to watch the Under 20 World Cup clash between Ecuador and South Korea and the reason for our visit was young winger Alexander Alvarado.

The versatile 20-year-old can operate on both flanks but it seemed to me that if we did have any interest in the lad, he would naturally link up with Carlos Corberan’s Under 23 setup first as based on the statistics that I was able to find, he didn’t tick the kind of boxes you’d expect if he would be a signing for Marcelo Bielsa’s first team setup.

Fast forward a couple of weeks and although the speculation is back, we clearly haven’t made an offer yet and the player himself has seemingly received no firm contact from us either with him stating that he’s aware of the speculation purely from the internet.

“It’s something that I saw on social media. I have not talked to anyone. In the coming days we (agent) are going to talk. When an option comes out we will make it public. I like it (English football), for what it is, because no team is less than another. If I have to go, I will do it in the best way and if I have to stay in Aucas for a year or six months, I will defend these colours as I have been doing.”

If you want to overly read into his words it is a little bit ‘come and get me’ but we’ll know by the time the window slams shut for definite.
