“Moves a bit like Eddie Gray” – These Leeds fans react as £25k star hits “great strike”

|

A few Leeds United fans have been reacting online after Under 18s left-back Joshveer Shergill hit a thunderous strike against Hull City in the FA Youth Cup.

The Tigers’ U18s travelled to Elland Road on Thursday for the Third Round clash, which saw the Whites triumph 3-1 thanks to Shergill’s 28th-minute equaliser and a brace by Charlie Cresswell.

Hull broke the deadlock through Will Jarvis inside the opening minute, but Shergill pulled the score level midway through the first-half when the teenage full-back produced a moment of sublime skill.

Shergill worked room for himself in the corner of the Tigers box, before cutting the ball onto his right-foot and picking out the far top corner to leave David Robson with no chance of making a save.

Robson had been forced to make a key save just moments before when Stuart McKinstry delivered a low driving effort, and would be beaten later on when Dane Burlace’s corner was met by Cresswell, whose bullet header rippled the back of the net.

Cresswell would go on to secure his brace and the win after the interval, when our U18s captain converted from the spot after Niklas Haugland was fouled in the area by Hull’s Josh Ward.

Is Shergill ready to feature regularly with the U23s?

Yes

No

Shergill joined the Whites from Walsall in June 2018 for £25,000, plus a future sell-on clause, having previously been a part of West Bromwich Albion’s academy.

Here are some of the messages shared as fans reacted to Shergill’s goal…

In other Leeds United news, the club are plotting a January swoop for a 5 ft 9 forward winning 33.3% of his ground duels this term.
