Salzburg star makes intentions clear: Rumour Watch

22-year-old Malian holding midfielder Mohamed Camara is the latest RB Salzburg player to be linked with a move to Yorkshire, but not by conventional, or in any way trustworthy, means.

Some fans have noted that Camara’s official Instagram page has been ‘liking’ posts on the Leeds United account, including the announcement of Marc Roca, and has been ‘liking’ comments linking him to a move to Leeds United. However, he has also been ‘liking’ content from Brighton and Hove Albion, suggesting that rather than a move to Leeds, he is mostly interested in a Premier League move.

The young talent is already an established star within the Austrian side, and became the 7th youngest player to win ‘man of the match’ in the Champions League knockout stages in a match against 2020 winners Bayern Munich.

This would, if completed, be the third RB Salzburg player to sign for Leeds United this summer, following attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson and right-back Rasmus Kristensen.

The Red Bull link, alongside the Instagram activity, has sent Leeds fans into a frenzy on Twitter.

Reasons to believe this rumour

• A holding midfielder will be top priority for Jesse Marsch if Kalvin Phillips completes a move to Manchester City or elsewhere.
• The American knows Mo Camara, having worked with him in Austria, so he would be well-suited to the system.

  Reasons to NOT believe this rumour

• There has been no indication whatsoever that Leeds are particularly interested in pursuing this deal. Needless to say, players’ personal desires don’t make a transfer any more likely to happen if the buying club doesn’t actually make a bid.
• A similar situation with Rodrigo de Paul occurred last year, and the move failed to materialise, even despite real interest from the club to make the signing.
• Tyler Adams of RB Leipzig seems to be the club’s main target in this position right now.

Overall, this whole situation seems to be a big fuss about nothing. There have been no official sources linking the player to a Leeds move, and this ultimately means any talk must be taken with a pinch of salt. If the club were to make a move for the Malian star, however, it would make a lot of sense to get the deal over the line, as he is a top quality player that seems perfectly suited to the side right now.
