Sky Sports pundit Danny Mills has shared doubt in Sheffield United’s Luke Freeman improving who is on offer to Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds.
Freeman has been linked with a January move to Elland Road after Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur recalled Eddie Nketiah and Jack Clarke from their season-long loan deals in West Yorkshire.
Bielsa is thought to be longing for new attacking talent in his ranks due to their premature departures, and has club staff keeping tabs on Freeman’s situation at Bramall Lane ahead of a potential loan approach.
Freeman has struggled to establish himself as a starting option in Chris Wilder’s side since joining the South Yorkshire outfit for £5million in the summer, though the Blades boss is allegedly reluctant to lose the 27-year-old already.
Even if Wilder’s stance eases in our favour before the January 31 deadline hits, Mills doubts Freeman would be a beneficial addition to who is already on hand to Bielsa at Elland Road.
Instead, Mills has told Football Insider that we ought to be going all-out on recognised centre-forwards, rather than targeting former QPR star Freeman.
Would you back a move for Freeman?
“They’re looking for a goalscorer, aren’t they? That’s what they need more than anything else,” Mills said.
“They’ve pretty much got enough quality in every other position, they can almost deal with whatever is thrown at them, it shouldn’t be too much of a big deal.
“If they can get that one striker in, just to give them that little bit extra, that little bit of support for Patrick Bamford so he can have a rest from time to time. If they can get that striker in, that would be the key. That would be what Leeds, I’m sure, are clamouring for.”
In other Leeds United news, the club plan to bring a youth international to Thorp Arch next week ahead of a potential transfer.
