Former Leeds United goalkeeper Odsonne Edouard would be a “huge, huge signing” for the club.

The 22-year-old was recently linked with a move to Elland Road on the basis that Marcelo Bielsa’s side was promoted to the Premier League this season.

This looks increasingly likely to happen as they sit top of the Championship table, one point ahead of West Bromwich Albion in second and three points in front of Brentford who they have a game in hand to.

Leeds have struggled with their attacking options after new signing Jean-Kevin Augustin picked up an injury which will see him miss the rest of the season. Patrick Bamford has been Bielsa’s only out-and-out centre forward.

Speaking with MOT Leeds News, Robinson was delighted with the report and believes that he is head and shoulders ahead of Augustin in terms of ability.

Will Leeds United sign Odsonne Edouard if they are promoted?

“Edouard would be a huge, huge signing. £17m for Augustin or Odsonne Edouard, there’s no comparison.

“We’re talking about proven strikers. Edouard, Mitrovic, they’re proven strikers. Mitrovic in the Championship, Edouard in the Scottish Premiership. It’s a different level.

“I think you’d take Edouard above Augustin all day long. He’s been sent home for a reason. Edouard would be real signing to excite the fans.

“It shows where the club is and he’d be a massive signing for Leeds if they could pull it off. He’s scored 60 goals in two seasons for Celtic.

Robinson is convinced that Edouard could do a job in the Premier League and we believe that he is right on this.

With 27 goals from 45 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops this season (as per TransferMarkt), he would be a fantastic signing for the club. Although Celtic boss Neil Lennon is keen to keep hold of the Frenchman for next season as they look to secure 10 league titles in a row.

For sure, Edouard would be one of the best signings to arrive at Elland Road in recent years and could spark a new generation of talent to play in North Yorkshire.
