Some Leeds United fans have noted on social media the similarities between the first-team and our Under 18s, after the club shared that Manchester United scored from a corner during our FA Youth Cup clash on Wednesday night.

Mark Jackson’s young Whites travelled to Old Trafford for the Fifth Round encounter but were unable to repeat the scenes of 1993, when we beat a Red Devils side featuring the Neville brothers, Paul Scholes and David Beckham in the Youth Cup Final.

Manchester United won the midweek clash through a sole effort by 16-year-old Dillon Hoogwerf, who had been allowed an array of chances earlier in the game before he would slot home in the 60th-minute.

Hoogwerf found the net after Leeds did well to deal with an initial corner only for the resulting loose ball to find Reece Devine, who lifted play back into the middle for the Dutch prospect to nod home.

Are you concerned by the type of goals we are conceding?

Fans have taken to social media to offer their thoughts on Hoogwerf’s goal, with some noting the similarities between Jackson’s U18s and Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team.

Conceding from set-pieces has been a consistent plight for the senior fold this season, with Kiko Casilla beaten 11 times from corners and free-kicks – accounting for 40 per cent of the 27 goals allowed this Championship season.

Wigan Athletic were able to leave Elland Road with all three points at the weekend after seeing Pablo Hernandez inadvertently direct the ball into his own net from a corner.

Latics boss Paul Cook even noted after the game that he had set his side out to practice set-pieces throughout the week leading up to his side’s trip to West Yorkshire, knowing that dead ball situations would be key to the result.

In other Leeds United news, fans have been urging Bielsa to axe a one-time international when we face Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
