New Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen says he is looking to do better than previous coach Garry Monk.

Monk led Leeds to a seventh placed finish last season in his only season at Leeds, their highest finish in six-years, before deciding he wanted to leave the club this summer.

Leeds announced last week that APOEL Nicosia manager Christiansen would be replacing Monk at Elland Road and he met the press for the first time today as he was introduced to the media.

Christiansen told the media that he is looking to do better than Monk did in his season with the club.

“I`m the guy who really wants to be here and has clear ideas of what I want to do to succeed with this club and I am ambitious to bring Leeds back to where they belong,” Christiansen told BBC Radio Leeds.

“We will do our best. With hard work we want to take Leeds to where they belong.

“If we can do that in the first year then fantastic, if it is the second year that will not be bad.

“I`m very excited and believe we can do good things here.

“Last year they finished seventh and I hope to do better this season.”

Leeds will find out their first opponents of the 2017/18 season when the Football League announce the new fixture list this Wednesday at 9am.
