Leeds United head coach Garry Monk says his side will so still go for it despite seeing their hopes of reaching the play-offs dealt a huge blow at Burton Albion.

Leeds went into the game at Burton with a play-off place still in their own hands but a 2-1 defeat at the Pirelli Stadium leaves a top-six finish now out of their hands with just two games remaining.

“We feel hugely disappointed because making the Play-Offs is now out of our hands and the defeat is very raw at the moment,” Monk told the Leeds official website.

“We have a duty though, to fight for everyone and our fans in these final two games, we want to finish on a high at Elland Road.

“Whilst there is still a small chance, we have to go for it and we will all be trying to do that.”

Leeds lost after conceding two goals in three minutes after dominating possession for most of the game.

Marvin Sordell gave Burton the lead on 75 minutes and just two minutes later Michael Kightly doubled the lead for the home side.

Kyle Bartley pulled a goal back for Leeds with ten minutes remaining, Kemar Roofe missed a great chance to level for Leeds soon afterwards when he failed to make a proper connection on the ball in front of goal, and his effort was cleared off the line.

It was to prove the final chance for Leeds, who looked short of ideas in the final third of the pitch for much of the game.

The defeat leaves Leeds three points behind sixth placed Fulham with just two games remaining with the cottagers having a much better goal difference.
