Leeds United saw their play-offs hopes dealt a severe blow as they went down to a 2-1 defeat at Burton Albion.

Two goals in three minutes late in the game were enough for Burton who held on after Leeds reduced the arrears through Kyle Bartley with ten minutes remaining.

A tight first half saw few chances. Leeds had a goal disallowed when Chris Wood headed home but referee Darren Bond had already blown for a foul on goalkeeper Stephen Bywater by Kemar Roofe.

Luke Ayling went closest for Leeds when he could only head into the side netting after Bartley had headed across goal.

Leeds enjoyed plenty of possession but they were struggling to find a way through a resolute Burton defence. Pablo Hernandez wasted a good chance when he could only head wide after a good ball into the area by Charlie Taylor.

Burton went ahead with 15 minutes remaining. A poor ball in a dangerous area by Hadi Sacko fell to Marvin Sordell and his low shot beat Rob Green.

The goal stunned Leeds and they were caught out again two minutes later when Michael Kightly found space in the area to fire past Green.

Leeds were given hope minutes later when Kyle Bartley supplied the finishing touch to a looping Chris Wood header.

Roofe then had a great chance to equalise for Leeds but he could only apply a weak effort from close range and his shot was cleared off the line by the Burton defence.

It was to prove the final chance for Leeds, who suffered a second straight defeat to leave them three points behind the play-off places with two games remaining.
