LUFC Leeds United Fan View v Sunderland

I made the trip to the Stadium of Light on Saturday evening to watch Leeds United continue their unbeaten start to the Championship season with a 2-0 win over Sunderland.

I give my own view of the performance of the Leeds team.

Wiedwald 7
He only had one save to make the whole game as he was well protected by the defence.

Ayling 8
No need to say too much about Mr Dependable. He does exactly what it says on the tin. He got forward well in the first half as Leeds troubled Sunderland down their left.

Jansson 8
There was no getting past the two centre backs. Blocks and headers, they won everything.

Cooper 8
Like his partner at the heart of the Leeds defence, he won everything that came his way. One terrific goal line clearance proved crucial for Leeds as they went ahead just one minute later.

Anita 8
Anita was impressive again down the Leeds left. I am sure he enjoyed the win being an ex-Newcastle player and getting the jeers off the Sunderland fans.

Phillips 8
He was very impressive in the midfield. He didn`t allow Sunderland any time on the ball and he won the battle with his midfielder partner Eunan O`Kane, who snuffed out any threat from their main midfield man Lee Cattermole.

O`Kane 8
Like his midfield partner, worked really hard to not allow Sunderland time on the ball.

Hernandez 7
He was doing well before being forced off with an injury just after Leeds had gone ahead.

Ekuban 7
Ekuban came into the side for Chris Wood and he made an impressive debut in the Championship. He linked up well with both Ezgjan Alioski and Samu Saiz as they caused Sunderland problems.

Saiz 8 Star Man
He scored one and he set up one. All-action performance and he looks like the signing of the summer.

Alioski 8
Like Saiz, an all-action performance and like Saiz, he was at the heart of everything Leeds did well going forward.

Subs

Roofe 6

I thought he struggled to get involved after replacing Hernandez. He did get better when he went up front following the injury to Ekuban.

Dallas 7
A well-taken header for the crucial second goal. He looks much hungrier this season. Be interesting to see if he could do it when he starts.

Klich
A late replacement for Saiz.

Summary
With all the unrest ahead of the game with the reports that Chris Wood was about to leave Leeds, many of us thought on the way to the game that it could affect us.

It seemed to work in our favour, as the players showed a unity and togetherness to succeed for Leeds.

It was a very professional performance as we snuffed out every threat Sunderland tried to create.

For me, we are well ahead of where I thought we would be at this stage and I can only see things getting better following a change to manager and so many foreign players arriving with no experience of the Championship.

The fans were in full voice throughout and the win made the 12-hour round trip all worthwhile.

I hope that we can finish the month with a win at Nottingham Forest next weekend.
