Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen says he is very pleased with the start to the campaign as they maintained their unbeaten start to the season with an impressive win at Sunderland.

Christiansen watched his side put the disappointment of the imminent departure of striker Chris Wood behind them, as they won 2-0 at the Stadium of Light thanks to goals from Samu Saiz and Stuart Dallas.

“We have had a difficult couple of days, but the response was perfect and one that I expected of my team, of which I am very satisfied with the performance of my side,” Christiansen told the Leeds official website.

“The most important thing is getting the three points and keeping a clean sheet is another good thing, it is the third in a row so the team is getting consistent at the back and we also managed to score two nice goals.

“I am very pleased with the start to the campaign, it was a good test to prove that we are a good team.

“We played against a strong opponent who wants to be challenging at the top end of the table and this was our moment to prove we will also fight for that.”

Leeds went ahead on 21 minutes when Ezgjan Alioski found Saiz and the little Spaniard fired home for his fourth goal of the season.

Dallas ensured Leeds would leave with the three points with 14 minutes remaining when he headed home following more good work from Saiz.

Leeds have now picked up eight points from their opening five games to sit in fifth place in the Championship.
