Leeds United versatility player Andy Hughes has earned an automatic one year extension on his contract having amassed eighteen league games for the Whites this season.

Hughes joined Leeds in 2007 on a two year deal, part of the deal was that if he played 18 league games in the second season he would automatically receive a one year extension. The extension sees him through to the summer of 2010.

The 31 year old has actually missed the last month with a hamstring injury; he`s played across the midfield this season as well as left back and right back.

Speaking on the official website Hughes said ‘It was in my contract when I first came if I made a certain amount of appearances in my second year there would be another year,’

Hughes returned to training last week and is pushing for a place in Saturday`s game at Crewe Alexandra.
