Leeds United boss Simon Grayson was delighted for his hard working striker Luciano Becchio after the Argentinian came off the bench to score his first hat trick for Leeds United.

Grayson chose to rest Becchio from the starting line up after being the lone striker for Leeds in their last three games.

Speaking on Radio Leeds, Grayson said, ”He has been battered from pillar to post in the last few games playing as a lone striker so I felt he needed a breather and started him on the bench.
”We certainly reaped the rewards of sending him on just after the hour. He was there in the right place at the right time and fully deserved his hat trick because he has worked ever so hard since he has been here. They were two great headers and a clinical finish.’

Becchio came on just past the hour mark with the score at 0-0 and within five minutes of his introduction, he had given Leeds the lead with a fine header.

Bristol City equalised two minutes later but it was only a matter of minutes before Becchio had added a second to restore the lead, this time he pounced on a Lloyd Sam shot that could only be parried by David James in the City goal.

He completed a seventeen-minute hat trick with another fine header this time from a George McCartney cross.

Becchio is out of contract in the summer and Leeds will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the Jermaine Beckford saga last season that eventually saw him walk away from Elland Road on a free transfer to Everton.
