Leeds United boss Simon Grayson said the performance of his side was a fantastic fitting tribute to Gary Speed who died at the weekend.

Leeds hammered Nottingham Forest 4-0 at the City Ground in a match that was proceeded with a minute`s applause for the former Leeds player.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Grayson said, “It was a fantastic fitting tribute to Gary. It has been a difficult couple of days for me and everyone at the football club after what has happened.
“It is a fitting way to celebrate a victory for Gary.”

Some may have felt that Gary was watching over Leeds.
Leeds fans paid their own tribute to the player who spent eight years at Elland Road, helping them win the First and Second Division titles.

Fans started singing the name of Gary Speed in the eleventh minute, for eleven minutes, for the player who wore the number 11 shirt during his time at Leeds.

It was at the moment that Leeds fans stopped singing; Robert Snodgrass fired Leeds into the lead with a sweet left foot strike, something Leeds fans had grown accustomed to seeing during Speed`s time with the club.
“It was very poignant after eleven minutes of singing his name, the fans stopped and Leeds scored a goal and that just tells you something about him, it was meant to be tonight,” Grayson continued.
