Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi says the players need to do more if they are going to stop their slide down the table.

Leeds welcome South Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield Wednesday to Elland Road this afternoon having won just once in 2018. The slump in form has seen them slip out of the play-off places at Christmas to 13th place in the Championship table.

With the play-off places now looking a distant memory, Berardi will want Leeds to finish the season on a high and he admits the players could be doing more.

“It is an important week and we are looking for a win,” Berardi told the pre-match press conference.

“It will be a tough game, but we have prepared well, we have worked hard every day to be ready on Saturday and the focus is to try and win the game.

“We`ve made a lot of mistakes this season, but it is not over and we have to give our best on the pitch every time, even in this bad moment.

“We need a win, especially in this next game which is a derby, we need to show something, we need to show that we are not bad.

“As players we need to do more, we have to show we can win this type of game, show we are prepared and I am positive.”

Sheffield Wednesday are another team woefully out of form. The Owls have also won just once in 2018 and they will be desperate for the points to pull clear of the relegation places.

When the two sides met at Hillsborough earlier in the season, Sheffield Wednesday won 3-0 with Gary Hooper scoring twice and Kieran Lee on target for the home side.
