Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen is hoping the club will appeal the red card shown to Eunan O`Kane in the defeat at Ipswich Town.

O`Kane was shown a straight red card just 37 minutes into the game after a coming together with Ipswich defender Jonas Knudsen.

Knudsen went down after going towards the Leeds midfielder. O`Kane had overrun the ball out of play, he appeared to push Ipswich player Callum Connolly, something Knudsen took exception to, and he confronted O`Kane.

The Ipswich defender quickly went to ground with the incident happening in front of referee Robert Jones. The official quickly produced a red card to O`Kane, a first in almost 300 appearances for the Republic of Ireland international.

Christiansen pleaded the innocence of O`Kane after the game.

‘I think we should appeal because he didn’t do anything. It was a provocation and they touched each other, and the only one who went to the ground was the opponent,’ Christiansen told the BBC.

O`Kane will now serve an automatic three-match suspension, missing the games with Millwall, Hull City and Cardiff City. His suspension comes at a time when they also have Samu Saiz serving a six-match suspension for spitting at an opponent at Newport County last weekend.

With Ronaldo Vieira out injured, Leeds are running short of numbers in midfielder and Kalvin Phillips is now just one yellow card away from his tenth yellow card of the season and an automatic two-match suspension.
