Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen was a happy man following his sides 2-1 win against Middlesbrough.

Leeds returned from the international break with a crucial win against one of their promotion rivals as they got their own push for promotion back on track after a poor run of results.

“I`m very happy. The players did a very good job, believing and following my instructions to go for the game and for the three points. That, from my point of view, marked the difference,” Christiansen told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“The players did all that they had to do. We faced one of the best teams in this league, a team who wanted promotion straight, but we played better than them and deserved the three points.

“The team is alive and they`ve been alive the whole time. Sometimes you succeed and sometimes you fail but when you fail you have to work hard to improve the situation. We`ve analysed a lot and worked a lot. There`s been a good atmosphere, believing it would turn.”

Pablo Hernandez was the Leeds hero as he scored the first and then he set up Ezgjan Alioski for the second goal.

Middlesbrough were given a late lifeline when Britt Assombalonga scored from the penalty spot but Leeds held on for the three points that lifts them level on points with Middlesbrough in sixth place in the Championship.
