With Leeds United fans only having some glimmers of joy to shout about this summer given our slow start and moves in the transfer window and performances in our pre-season schedule of games, a number of youngsters have certainly taken their chance to impress the faithful and even Mats Klich appears to have gained a new lease on life at the club.
Following the weekend’s clash against Las Palmas as we closed out the pre-season warmup matches and now turn all eyes towards the Championship kick-off and Stoke City, 22-year-old Kalvin Phillips more than took his opportunity to stand out from the pack.
Having come through our Academy setup initially as a midfielder, manager Marcelo Bielsa have given him time in defence in our three at the back system he appears to favour.
The youngster is certainly beginning to win people over with his effort in the new position and he’s come in for a lot of praise from some.
Not much to shout about but loving Phillips in this new role #lufc

Phillips at CB has been highlight so far for me for 1st half. Good to see Ayling doing his thing again too. Roofe is a work-horse. If only delivery was better!

A bit of a laboured performance by all really, still clearly been hammered by Bielsa in training thought everyone was just a bit leggy.Phillips MOTM by a distance imho.Klich looked good.Jansson,Douglas,Forshaw,Bamford to come in.BUT still need CB,LW & CAM bare minimum #lufc

Gonna try focus on the positives for the season ahead starting with today. Thought Phillips played really well, Klich, even though he only had a half was miles better than the rest, Roberts looks a handful, Roofe took his goal well, they look fitter #lufc

He gets a lot of stick but today was solid and uncompromising. Totally agree

Agree. Looked so assured. Thought that cruncher in 1st half was a great tackle. Never a card

Phillips at CB was fantastic! Klich & Dallas also big standouts after that. #LUFC

We do look a bit slow (pacewise) in the attacking 3rd don’t we? Not much speed in the team. Kalvin Phillips looks really comfortable at the back so far. #LUFC
