With Leeds United fans only having some glimmers of joy to shout about this summer given our slow start and moves in the transfer window and performances in our pre-season schedule of games, a number of youngsters have certainly taken their chance to impress the faithful and even Mats Klich appears to have gained a new lease on life at the club.

Following the weekend’s clash against Las Palmas as we closed out the pre-season warmup matches and now turn all eyes towards the Championship kick-off and Stoke City, 22-year-old Kalvin Phillips more than took his opportunity to stand out from the pack.

Having come through our Academy setup initially as a midfielder, manager Marcelo Bielsa have given him time in defence in our three at the back system he appears to favour.

The youngster is certainly beginning to win people over with his effort in the new position and he’s come in for a lot of praise from some.

  • Remember the level of opposition before we start going overboard. Yes great to see Phillips slotting in well but can he do it against the likes of Stoke and the rest?. What worries me is that he is so prone to go in and give away needless free kicks. Playing this deep they are going to be in far more dangerous positions. Penalties even

  • I will be totally honest (as always) that I was one of the leading protagonists in the “Get Phillips out brigade ” , However , Marcelo Bielsa appears to have started to transform Mr. Phillips from a headless chicken into a promising professional footballer.
I shall continue to watch young Kalvin’s progress with interest. Who knows ? Bielsa waves his magic wand , Phillips becomes a real pro , THEN WE’LL SELL HIM ! ! ! ! !
