Leeds United have announced via their official website and Twitter account, that young left back Leif Davis has left the club, on a permanent deal to join League one club Ipswich Town. The 22 year old, who joined the club in 2018 after two years at Morecambe, signs a deal with Ipswich for an undisclosed fee.

Having first been placed in the youth academy at Leeds, Davis made his debut for the senior side in a 3-2 win against Aston Villa in December 2018. He was named as an unused substitute on many occasions, whilst being an ever present in Carlos Corberan’s side that won the PDL Northern League in 2018/19. He also featured in Marcelo Bielsa’s Championship winning team. His first start of the 2020/21 season came in September in a 1–1 draw against Hull in the EFL Cup. Eventually losing 9–8 on penalties. He made his Premier League debut for Leeds, as a second half substitute in the 1–1 draw with Manchester City on 3 October 2020.

A club statement said “Leeds United can confirm that Leif Davis has today joined Ipswich Town in a permanent deal, for an undisclosed fee.

The defender joined the Whites in 2018 from Morecambe and initially went into the Under-23s side, before impressing and working his way into the first team setup.

Davis was given his Championship debut in a memorable 3-2 victory away at Aston Villa. Overall, he made 14 appearances for the club, two of which were in the Premier League during the 2020/21 season.

Everyone at Leeds United would like to wish Leif the best of luck with the remainder of his career and thank him for his efforts whilst at Elland Road, most notably for being part of the 2019/20 promotion winning side.”

Leeds must now step up their efforts to bring a left back to the club with Junior Firpo and utility man Stuart Dallas on the treatment table, leaving them with no other recognised left back’s at the club barring Leo Hjelde or Pascal Struijk who could potentially step into that position.
