Leeds United are on the verge of history as they edge closer to ending that 16-year wait for Premier League football at Elland Road.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side are six points clear of the playoff positions going into the final six matches of the 2019/20 campaign. It’s in their hands.
However, their likely promotion will be marred by the latest news emerging out of the top-flight and fans have quite rightfully taken to social media in pure outrage.
The Guardian exclusively revealed on Wednesday night that the PL will ask promoted Championship clubs for a £8m payment to help settle debts that have arisen as a financial consequence of the pandemic.
It’s claimed that this development has angered the likes of United and West Brom – and this is ever so clear through the voice of the Whites faithful.
BBC reporter Adam Pope relayed the news to supporters on Twitter and some of the responses have blasted such news, claiming it is “disgusting” and “outrageous”.
Here’s the rest of the reaction…
It’s disgusting if true. It’s not a private members’ club for God’s sake. The clubs that stay up should all pay £1.5M each extra as it’s peanuts to them but £8M is massive to Championship sides on the way up. Utterly wrong!
