Football fans and players could be forgiven for succumbing to boredom over the last few weeks, while those of Leeds United could be fearing the worst as all they have achieved this season is still under threat.

If players are worried by that possibility, they aren’t showing it. Instead, Tyler Roberts is as relaxed as anyone and appears to be enjoying his time off.

The fact he has a table tennis table in his back garden no doubt helps with that, and he seems a tidy player after capturing himself in action over the weekend.

By the time football returns he could become an expert at the sport, but at least by having fun he can distract himself from world events. If he can use that positivity in his football then it will be good for everyone.

I’ve been a little disappointed with the forward this season, but mostly because of his poor injury record and the fact that he has been unable to show the quality he clearly possesses – having made just 14 league appearances this term.

His double against Hull – which now seems like a distant memory despite occurring at the end of February – showcases the talent he has, and that means he could have an important role to play in determining the outcome of the season.

Would Tyler Roberts be an asset in the Premier League?

Yes

Yes

No

Roberts clearly has the right mindset when it comes to playing for us, with the message of “stay winning” showing he has a champions’ mentality, and that is exactly what we need to gain promotion.

The problem seems to be finding a position in the team that suits his attributes. He is not ready to play the lone role up-front and Marcelo Bielsa only seems to trust Patrick Bamford in that position – with Jean-Kevin Augustin playing just 49 minutes since January.

Attacking midfield could be his best bet but the Argentine doesn’t really allow for such a role, and in any case it is Pablo Hernandez who would likely be first-choice there.

Nevertheless, just being fit and positive is an advantage for the 21-year-old currently, and hopefully he will continue to develop once the fixtures come back.
