Leeds suffer blow as prime target set to conclude move elsewhere

|

Leeds United are flying high in their pursuit of promotion to the Championship but reinforcements are required for the second half of the campaign.

One area where the Peacocks could be looking for improvements is within the attacking third, particularly after losing Samuel Saiz to Getafe, but their pursuit of one prime target has hit the rocks as it seems he will conclude a move elsewhere.

Spanish outlet AS states Alaves winger Ibai Gomez, who worked with Marcelo Bielsa during their time at Athletic Bilbao, is set to rejoin the Basque club as the final details are being ironed out ahead of a €4m deal.

The 29-year-old has been widely linked with a move to Elland Road in the past few months and his links with Bielsa have intensified the reports. However, it seems that Gomez will return to the side he left in 2016.

In 18 LaLiga appearances this season, Gomez has contributed three goals and two assists to an Alaves side that have exceeded expectations and sit fourth, one point ahead of Real Madrid.
