Leeds are hoping to tie up a deal for MLS striker Valentin Castellanos as reported by Ekrem Konur via twitter.

It comes as no surprise that the whites are trying to bolster their attacking options, with Patrick Bamford out injured for most of the campaign, proving there is a real need to bring in reinforcements.

Leeds relied heavily on the likes of Dan James to lead the line in Bamford’s absence, and youngsters Joe Geldhart and Sam Greenwood only playing bit parts throughout the season.  Leeds preferred formation under Bielsa was a 4-1-4-1 but this relied heavily on wingers, and a fox in the box like Bamford, and with Joe Gelhardt looking more likely the only one to emulate Bamford’s instinct in front of goal, it’s certainly time to look for other options.

Leeds simply can’t have another season like the last, plagued by injuries, and without strength in depth.  If they go into the new season without another forward it could be a disaster.  The board and coach Jesse Marsch recognise this, and they have now turned their attention to the MLS top scorer.

Castellanos is a 23 year old Argentinian who has played over 150 games for NY City, scoring 53 goals.  His best return was last season when he netted 19 times in 32 games, claiming the golden boot, and a place in the MLS team of the season.  He is quick, skilful and certainly has an eye for goal, just what Leeds have been looking for.

If they can get this deal done and keep Patrick Bamford fit, they could surprise a few teams this season.  Also with the attacking options they will now have on the bench they have a real chance of achieving something special this campaign.
